Today, one of the biggest environmental problems is pollution. We are just thinking for our economical growth and without imagining the serious effects of pollution on our planet, we have been continuously polluting our environment since the start of industrial revolution. Because of lack of our ecological conscience, different types of pollution like air, water, sea pollution, etc is increasing day by day.

Industries and vehicles are main sources of pollution. Many industries based on fossil fuels have adverse effects on environment and are becoming very dangerous for our planet. So, we are having economical growth of our country at the very large price of our environment. Pollution is not only making our planet ugly but it is also the cause of many hazardous diseases like respiratory and waterborne diseases. Other main source of air pollution is dirty fuel such as coal that releases harmful gases and small particles in our atmosphere.

Water pollution is another form of pollution and we are still doing very less to protect our water bodies. Industries are continuously dumping the wastage in water bodies like sea and river. Because of this there is a shortage of drinking water also. In many parts of the world, people are dying from waterborne diseases and lack of basic hygiene.

So, pollution is causing lot of damage to human and animal health, plants and trees and our planet. Harmful gases and the garbage thrown by us every day are destroying the gift of nature that God gave us. It is our firm duty to protect our environment and planet from pollution and for this we have to take some important steps like not throwing garbage at every place, travelling by public transport can also help us in decreasing air pollution, and there are so many other things that we can do to protect our environment.

The biosphere in which we survive is sustained by oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, argon and water vapor all in the right balance. The introduction of contaminants in several forms that leads to instability and disorder in the physical systems and living organs is called pollution. There are several factors that lead to pollution. Let’s go through them one by one.

• Improper disposition of Waste: Every single day lots of domestic waste from Industrial and Commercial units is dumped that is not disposed off properly leading to environmental pollution. The smoke and gases coming out of these units cause constant hazards contaminating both air and water. At times, even the sewage waste is pumped untreated into the sea.
• Utilization of Pesticides and Herbicides: The utilization of these pesticides on the crop by the farmers contaminates the soil and in turn they are consumed by humans and animals leading to several aggravated diseases.
• Smoke from Automobiles and Nuclear tests: The testing of Nuclear weapons near inhabited areas introduces radioactive contamination that can remain lethally radioactive for hundred and thousands of years. This is a critical threat to human health. Not only this, the smoke emitted by cars and other modes of transportation is one of the biggest factors contributing to environmental pollution.
• Carbon Dioxide and other gases: Emanated by human being, Carbon Dioxide does not do as much harm as when it is emanated by other sources. In oil and chemical industry, the use of Carbon Dioxide is rampant. At least 40% of the gas emitted during a volcanic eruption is Carbon Dioxide leading to extensive Global Warming. This has an adverse impact on human being’s health. Along with this, burning of fossil fuel in factories, homes, and offices is contributing to air pollution at an alarming rate. Similarly, the presence of other gases like Carbon Monoxide produced due to fuel burning appliance and appliances such as gas water heaters, fireplaces and woodstoves, Sulfur dioxide emitted due to the excessive burning of fossil fuels, petroleum refineries, chemical and coal burning power plants also add to the already existing pollution levels.
• Accidents: If the fire in forests that is caught accidentally is not controlled by proper methods in time, it releases tons of Carbon Dioxide in air. Over the years, may such fires have been recorded. Accidents involving means of transport like ships, on road transport release large amount of pollutants like Carbon Dioxide, Sulphur Oxide, and Carbon Monoxide which is highly dangerous to human habitation.
• Industries: Smoke and gases emanated from Industries is the biggest contributor to large scale air pollution. With urbanization, several industries are coming up emitting huge volumes of disastrous gases. These gases are extremely harmful to the entire ecosystem including humans and animals.
• Transport: One of the mail reasons for pollution is the burning of petroleum products to run automotive transport vehicles. As urbanization increases, the necessity of transport vehicles becomes predictable. Highly populated cities have seen high level of air pollution due to vehicles.
