British ruled over the country for almost three hundred years. It was a period when India was known as The Golden Bird because of its vast resources and immense richness. However, the country kept struggling for its independence which finally came her way in 1947. Indian became a free nation on 15th August 1947 and was declared a republic on 26th January. Constituent Assembly drafted the constitution of India. The first sitting of the Constituent Assembly took place on 9th December 1946. The reassembling was organized on day before the independence, 14th August for the Dominion of India.

The Assembly had various committees including,

These committees presented reports on the basis of which a drafting committee was appointed on the 29th August, 1947. Renowned leader and intellectual, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar was the chairperson of the committee and it had several other prominent figures. The committee proposed additional proposals in the form of a ‘Draft Constitution of India, released in February, 1948. Soon enough, meetings of the Constituent Assembly took place and considered all the provisions of the Draft. All the clauses were also discussed in great length. The constitution was declared as passed after receiving the signature of the president on 26th November 1949. Finally after two years, eleven months and eighteen days, the constitution came into force on 26th January 1950.
